"Panhandle Waltz" by McAuliff went really BIG TIME and was aired for months on a lot of strict 'popular' radio DJ Programs. "Playboy Chimes" was another in still a different tuning and it was catchy, for the time. "Boot Heel Drag" was a venture into C#min tuning for us early day beginners. "Draggin' the Steel", was very popular at the time and sounds somewhat like "Black & White Rag". Before there were only two basic tunings that were popular. This was before the day of seminars, printed courses and DVD video classrooms.

It was the olde tunes, the originals in the early days, that made it possible for some of us to learn, not only new material but., how to play in a wide variety of different tunings.
The steel guitar is a versatile and incredible instrument. All of this helps all of us steel guitarists as we educate, enlighten and inform the general public.
In the coming years we need more younger players to compose songs and showcase their creative abilities. However, I still think that the steel guitarists should try to compose originals as well. There are many well written songs that to me the melodies sound really great on steel. Also, I am in favor of trying other songwriters material. I think that many of the older steel players wrote some great instrumental songs. What about these songs and the steel writers/playersĪnd all the great instrumentals composed by artists such as Lloyd Green, Jay Dee Maness, Jimmy Crawford, Doug Jernigan and the list goes on and on. We have to educate the public and inspire other aspiring steel players. It show cases the instrument and their talents. In my opinion, steel players need to compose and write more original steel songs. I have also written or composed 10 new Country and Western Swing Gospel songs. My songs are all copyrighted with the US Library of Congress and have been published with "Zane Oi Music Publishing Company which is with ASCAP. If they go overseas I have to charge alittle extra just for postage.

It was a labor of love for me and was well recieved in Australia, New Zealand and Hawaiian Islands.īoth of these CDs sell for $15 plus $2 postage inside the USA. The reason I composed the Hawaiian songs is that nobody writes Hawaiian songs anymore. Next, I also recorded a new Hawaiian Steel CD titled "Steelin' Hawiian Dreams," last summer that has 14 songs and 11 are originals of mine. One of my CDs has 12 original songs on it titled "Rhinestone Steel Guitar." The songs range from Cajun, Pop, Easy Listening, West Coast style, Oriental, and of course Country and Bluegrass which were my roots. Yes, I have written or composed several new steel tunes the past few years.
